Ray-Ban Wayfarers
The Ray-Ban Wayfarer RB2140 is probably the most iconic sunglass of all time. Designed in 1952 by optical designer Raymond Stegeman, they were seen as radical in design, with their plastic frames replacing the more traditional metal frames used up until that time.
Immortalised by Audrey Hepburn in the film Breakfast at Tiffany's in the early 1960's, the Ray-Ban Wayfarer RB2140 has been in-favour with fashionistas ever since, and they are cited as the best-selling sunglasses of all time.
The Ray-Ban Wayfarer has evolved many times throughout its 50 year history, and the Ray Ban Wayfarer range today is wide, with a range of colours and sizes. Manufactured in Italy by Luxottica, the original Ray-Ban Wayfarer RB2140 is the style that most people will be familiar with - probably having owned a pair in the eighties and wishing they had kept them!
Now available in a huge range of colours, the Ray Ban Wayfarer RB2140 has been seen on many celebrities including Kate Moss, Beyonce Knowles , Matthew McConaughey and Eva Herzigova. Our RB2140 best selling colours include the classics black and tortoise shell, and the more funky and quirky red on black, pearlised red on red, light grey on pink and white. The RB2140 Ray-Ban Wayfarer comes in three sizes - small 47mm, medium 50mm and large 54mm - with the medium size being the most popular.
Ray-Ban have recently launched a Limited Edition collection of Ray Ban Wayfarers RB2140, that will only be available for a short space of time. Their first collection of Limited Edition Wayfarers include two designs - Flowers (with flowers on either the inside or outside of the RB2140 frame) and the Manhattan Wayfarer(with a map of Manhattan on the inside of the RB2140 sunglasses).
More recently Ray-Ban have introduced the New Wayfarer RB2132, which has a slightly shallower lens than the RB2140, and is, perhaps, an easier shape to wear. The New Wayfarer RB2132 comes in a great selection of colours including our favourite Blue/Orange RB2132.
Ray Ban Wayfarers are also available with Polarised lenses - and are especially suitable for people that need extra protection against reflections. The Ray Ban Polarised Wayfarers can be identified by the addition of the letter P in the Ray Ban signature that appears on the right lens of the sunglasses.
Ray Ban Wayfarers can also be fitted with prescription lenses and can be worn either clear - for a big statement - or with tinted prescription lenses available from designer-glasses.co.uk
